Early Exposure in the Late 80s
Coach JC Gillenwater's love for soccer began in the late 1980s while living in Italy. It wasn't a formal introduction through leagues or clubs, but rather the joy of pick-up games with local Italian kids. This immersion in the sport during his teenage years planted a seed that would blossom later in life.
From Multi-Sport Athlete to Coach
Back in the United States, Coach Gillenwater embraced a well-rounded athletic experience in high school, participating in football, baseball, cross country, and track. Despite this diverse background, his connection to soccer remained strong. As his two daughters took to the field playing club soccer with TCSA, Coach Gillenwater found himself drawn back to the sport he loved.
A Family Connection Leads to TCSA
As his son, Charlie, began playing club soccer with TCSA, Coach Gillenwater felt the call to do more. Approximately six years ago, he started by simply helping out with Charlie's team. This initial involvement soon evolved into assisting with coaching, a natural progression fueled by his passion for the game.
Committed to Coaching Development
Recognizing the desire to further develop his coaching skills, Coach Gillenwater embarked on a journey of continuous learning. He diligently completed all the Grassroots Coaching Courses between 2020 and 2022, culminating in obtaining his National D License on October 3rd, 2022. He has also achieved national certification as a referee, demonstrating his well-rounded knowledge of the game. This dedication to growth reflects his commitment to becoming the best coach he can be for his players.
A Love for the Game and the Community
Coach Gillenwater's coaching journey with TCSA has not only fostered his love for soccer but also his desire to see the sport flourish in the community. He continues to inspire young players and contribute to the growth of the game, both on and off the field.
